Trutopia: we both have very similar taste & looking for similar energy

Radio Intense is happy to present to you our next guest - Trutopia!

Welsh born and with a penchant for dancefloor-geared production, Trutopia have established themselves as a leading force in modern house music. Off the back of standout releases on some of the genre's most esteemed and admired labels, including Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records, the duo have garnered attention from leading media in the form of DJ Mag and Mixmag, the latter stating that "the duo are destined for big things". Performances in the UK, Amsterdam and the White Isle of Ibiza have cemented their standing as one of the scene's most in-demand pairings, something which, given their continued run of form, will not be stopping anytime soon.

Trutopia make a welcome return to their Night Mayors imprint this
October with You Move Ft. James Yuill. We talked to the duo about the release and their experience in the industry.
Enjoy!
— Hey guys, great to be chatting with you today! How are you both doing and where are you situated at the moment?
— Hey guys, first off thanks for having us on, pleasure to be here chatting with you.
Yea, we are both good, Ash is a little tired as he's just done a 20 hour drive from London to Ibiza where he is now based. Kris is still holding fort in London, but is spending some much needed time in Ibiza for the week.
We're pleased to be chatting with you ahead of the release of your track 'You Move' featuring James Yuill on your label Night Mayors. A great party feeling on this one. What can you tell us about this release?
— Yesss we are buzzing that this has finally landed.

"You Move" was the product of lock down, started during our many sessions through covid and finished ready for the dancefloors to start opening. We wanted something uplifting as it's been a long couple of years with corona. This feels like the perfect moment for it and it's been a staple in our sets from festivals to the club across the summer.
We're now just over one year on from the launch of your label Night Mayors. Congrats to you both on this achievement! How have you found the process of running the label?
— Night Mayors originally starting as a live streamed house party, bringing together brands like Desperados, streaming partners EtonMessy & acts such as LeftWing & Kody, TCTS, Clyde P, Ben Sterling, Angelo Ferreri & more, all for a massive house party, which got labeled the biggest house party in London by Ministry Of Sound. Then the pandemic hit & it only felt right to carry on building Night Mayors by setting up as a label. It's been a great start to the label side of things, gaining heavy support from BBC Radio 1's Sarah Story, as well as landing in some of the biggest Spotify Playlists. We've been really inspired to bring new, under the radar artists through & we have a wicked team behind it making sure everything runs as it should, also organising the parties to make a huge comeback in the new year.
How do you split the work between yourselves? Do you both focus on different aspects of the label or do you share each task together?
— When it comes to A&R side of the label workings, we both fully get involved. We find it really exciting to give constructive feedback to artists, working with them to make sure the records can reach full potential.

For the more back of house stuff we are lucky enough to have a great team that are on hand to deal with it from sorting contracts to release dates & PR.
Being a brother-duo, we'd love to hear the story about how you first decided to start Trutopia?
— This was a natural evolution from growing up playing in bands together, then later moving to London and really falling in love with house music.
As Trutopia you have covered a wide range of sounds already within the spectrum of house music, landing on labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Nervous Records, Stress Records, and more. We'd love to hear about your main musical influences that have helped shape the Trutopia sound?
— Yes, we've been really lucky to start our careers at such influential labels such as Nervous Records, Strictly Rhythm & Stress. I guess you can hear Influences from the likes of Armand Van Helden, MAW & early MK in some of these works.

As we move forward landing on Gorgon Citys label Realm Records, you'll hear some of our darker influences from Dennis Ferrer, Jonas Rathsman, Disclosure, etc.
Do you share the same influences or would you say you both bring your own tastes to the project?
— We both have very similar taste, looking for similar energy in our production as well as DJ sets.
Thank you very much for chatting with us today guys and we wish you all the best with the upcoming release! To round off, is there anything else on the way that you'd like to share with us?
— It's been a pleasure to catchup with you today, thanks for having us!
Hopefully we'll get to meet at a show some time soon as well as all the people locked in.

Please do get at us on socials @Trutopia & we hope you love the new single "You Move" Ft. James Yuill out now!
