Nico Banfi: making a hybrid of Minimal Techno, Cosmic, and Techno is my goal for 2022

We are glad to present to you our next guest - Nico Banfi!

Nico Banfi is a techno DJ and producer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

We talked to the emerging talent about his path in the industry and new release "Bleach" on SURO Records. Enjoy!
— Hi Nico, How are you? Could you present yourself for those who don't know you yet?
— Hello everyone! I'm Nico Banfi, I'm 27 years old and I'm a techno DJ and Producer from Buenos Aires,Argentina.
— How and when did you start your artistic career?
— I bought my first controller (Pioneer Sb2) after a Europe trip that I made in 2017, and I started to practice in my room, getting my first cabin experiences that same year. In 2018 I figured it out that I wanted to make my own music, and I've been taking production classes with Martin Kinrus since mid-2019.
— What are you currently focusing on as an artist?
— My main goal now is to reach always better labels and better gigs, pushing myself to make a sound that represents me in a 100% and to share stage with both international and big national artists. Also this year i achieved one of my goals that was being on a LATAM booking agency called WAU Bookings, sharing team with Franco Smith, D3fai, Unlighted, Gonzalo F and more.
— When did you realize you wanted to make your own tracks?
— Well, I was playing music for over a year back then, and I wanted to create my own music to grow up in scene as an artist and also to play unique music on sets. In 2018 I downloaded Ableton, knowing nothing about production. With the help of my brother, who was some knowledge about it, I created my first melodies and loops. At some point I realized that I needed to take classes to know how to make my work better, so I started to take classes 1on1 with Martin Kinrus, which I'm still taking.
— Was techno your first choice between genres or you had a journey towards it?
— I started playing Tech House at my very first months, then quickly my style was really influenciated by Minimal and Minimal Techno artists such as, Maksim Dark, Oliver Huntemman, Julian Jeweil and Martin Kinrus.

After a year and a half making and playing mainly this style I took a little break to think things out and where I wanted to go as an artist, in result of that , I started to take more influences from Techno and Cosmic Techno, influences that you can hear in EPs of mine like "Take Me" from IAMT Red, and "Umbra" from Numen.

Now, for the end of 2021 and 2022 I've been mixing all my influences to make a "hybrid" style between Minimal Techno, Cosmic, and Techno.
— You have a new release coming soon on SURO Records, what should we expect?
— Yes!, Im really excited and happy to be part of Suro, and also for the music result of "Bleach", which is the name of this upcoming release. As I said in the last questions, you should expect a combination of my different influences that I had along my carrer. With powerfull kicks, groovy sounds, cosmic influences on breaks and cutting-edge claps, this EP merge as a perfect weapon for every hour of a DJ Set.
— How do you like to approach making music?
— I don't have a routine to make music, but everyday i change or create at least 1 channel of a project everyday. What i only need is big cup of black coffee and my tobacco bag to make things happen.
— How is the techno scene in Argentina?
— I think that Techno scene in Argentina is growing everyday, with tons of talented producers like Unlighted, Gonzalo F, Martin Kinrus, Lautaro Ibañez, just to name a few, and also more and more people are interested on Techno parties than before. On the bad side, i think that there is stil some doors that are open only for a certain groups of artists, and also that the international events are really expensive for people right now.

As you know, Bleach is going out on 24th Dec (with Santa haha) and also I have something prepared for Extima Records on first quarter of 2022.
