Jamie Jones and Lee Foss' label Hot Creations have recently delivered a combined EP by Aix en Provence-based DJ and producer MALIKK and Marseille-born duo Chicks Luv Us in August. Bridging chunky tech house with dub techno, Can We Dance displays their collective love for bright and playful beats. We caught up with the guys to find out more...
— Hi guys, I hope you're good? Thanks for talking to us today! How are you and where are you based at the moment?
Malikk: Hi there! I'm doing well, thank you for asking! I'm currently based at Aix en Provence, France.
Chicks Luv Us: Hello, we are good thanks for asking, for now we are on a South America tour, but we are based in South of France Marseille.

— For any of our readers unfamiliar, can you tell us a bit about yourselves?
Malikk: Sure! I'm Malikk, a producer and DJ based in France.
To date, I have got music signed to Hot Creations, Hottrax, Toolroom Rec, Nervous Rec, and other labels!
Chicks Luv Us: Yes, of course, so we are Anthony and Julien and we started as DJs 15 years old. We learned in the best school as DJs as residents. We were resident DJs in a famous Club near Marseille called Spartacus Club where we opened and closed parties for the biggest Djs in the world like Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Luciano to name a fews and we started to produce music 10 years ago.

— Your new collaboration 'Can We Dance EP' is out on Hot Creations. Can you tell us about your relationship and how it came about?
Malikk: We have been friends for some years ! We live in the same area. A collaboration is born.
Chicks Luv Us: About the collaboration everything came naturally, we are friends for some years now, same area and we welcome MALIKK as resident of our party called Encasa which we also run the Label. And one day we decided to start this collab with the goal to sign on Hot Creations so we worked on it and tried many different ideas until we found the good one.

— When you work in the studio, what is your set up? Do you have a process or just see how it flows?
Malikk: No, I don't really have a process.
I start with a beat, but sometimes I listen to other different tracks for inspiration.
But usually my Behringer RD-8 does the job well.
Chicks Luv Us: No we don't have a special process, we love to sit and see what comes.

— For any aspiring producers and DJs, do you have any advice?
Malikk: Follow your gut and dreams, believe in yourself and never give up.
Couldn't be more cliché, but being true to yourself is the key in my opinion.
Chicks Luv Us: What we use to say as advice for newcomers or Djs is to be patient because it's the most important thing for us. Most of the people want to be famous quickly and have gigs every weekend but it's not like this. Everything comes step by step. The sound that we are making sounds better and better year after year and after hours of studio sessions. And also something important, even if you don't have a lot of time everyday it's always good to practice even if it's 1 or 2 hours a day.

— Do you have any projects, releases or gigs coming up that you can tell us about this year?
Malikk: I have some great stuff coming after my Hot Creations release.

Chicks Luv Us: This year we are focusing on different goals and projects about labels. We got Hot Creations and now we would like to get Solid Grooves as our principal goal. Then we are focusing on our own Label CLU Recs and Encasa. We have some releases coming soon on the new Loco Dice Label and also some other good labels.
