Holy Priest: hard, driving and meaningful

Today we are pleased to welcome another guest, Holy Priest!

We talked to the talented DJ & Producer about his upcoming release "Rave Penetrator" on Codex and other projects. Find out more below!

Hi Holy Priest! How are you doing? Where in the world are you right now?
— Hey and thanks for the interview! I'm currently in Oberhausen (Germany) at the Sick & Sound Studios where I spend most of my time producing music.
How did you start your 2023 and what do you expect to achieve within this year?
— I started the year with a new Mix & Mastering music studio so I can work on my productions in a more targeted and detailed way.
My goal in 23 is to take my music to the next level and hear my sound on the big stages.
Can you tell us where you got your name from?
— The project should be extraordinary and also reflect a certain magic, and of course that should also be reflected in the name. Holy Priest was the perfect name for the dark and holy sounds I want to convey. The costume and mask I'm wearing was the perfect complement to complete it, adding a certain level of mystery as well.
Massive congrats on your upcoming release "Rave Penetrator" on Codex. Can you talk to us through the release and how it came about? What inspired its creation?
— Thanks for the opportunity to release on Codex! A release on this label has always been a big dream for me, because the label has always inspired me in the techno music direction with its driving bass and extravagant sounds.
The idea for the track was to unite the nineties with the modern age by using well-known sounds from the past. As Call & Response, I tried to create a modern sound that conveys the right emotions, is meaningful and sticks in your head.
Sounds that move me in modern times and sounds that influenced me in the past. A small step into the past towards the present.
We'd love to know more about how you work in the studio, do you have a process or just see how things flow?
— In the studio, a project usually starts with the inspiration of a vocal, an emotion or a self-constructed kick that conveys an emotion to me in the course of the process. When I have worked out a topic, a small arrangement is usually made so that the production itself does not deviate from my idea. Once the topic and structure are in place, it's usually about finding sounds that fit the topic and accompany the emotions and the feeling of the production and make it interesting. When such a process is completed, I leave the finished production for a few days and then listen to it again to see what I might change with a neutral ear. After this process, it's usually time for me to go to another studio and concentrate mainly on the technical parts, like mixdown and mastering.
How would you describe your sound, and why did you choose to pursue your particular brand electronic music over other styles? What is it about the genre that you love so much?
— Hard, driving and meaningful. I've always wanted to create a sound that is recognizable and that I personally like in the production from start to finish. Over the years I have developed and realized that this type of music is exactly what reflects my musical inspiration and that I can develop without guidelines in my production and not limit myself by it.
Personally, I just love to switch off my head and follow the music, not too complex structures but clearly defined sounds in a structured line.
If you could put on your own show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you have joined you on the lineup?
— I would like to do my own show on a small island that can only be reached by boat and that's where I would let all my producers and DJ friends play and focus on extravagance and uniqueness
Finally, do you have any other projects coming up soon that you'd like to share with us?
— I finished a lot of projects in 2022 and now I'm just waiting to release all the new material, but unfortunately I can't give any information about it yet.
Thank you so much for the interview, i'm looking forward to the see how the track is going !
