Darlyn Vlys: I would define my style between rock and indie dance with a touch of synthwave

Impressive French producer Darlyn Vlys returns to TAU today with his latest outing, Return From Delta EP - a collection of four tracks that further cement his reputation for classy synthwave-inspired dance floor artillery. Darlyn is based in Valencia, where he is always deeply immersed in his audio lab, concocting new and unique ways to express his creativity. In 2021 he dropped the Doble Impacto EP, and now he's back to bring us more synthesised freshness as only he can do.
Hello Darlyn, thanks for taking the time to chat to us here at Radio Intense. How has 2022 been for you so far? Any highlights?
— Thanks for having me!

2022 has been a very productive year in the studio with the TAU release and another one upcoming on Blue Shadow.
I was also finally able to launch my own label 'Polaris', with the first EP released in July. It's a collab with Damon Jee and Vincent Brasse, a very talented vocalist.

The label's second EP set for release next November will be one from me, with a remix from Chinaski. I'm really looking forward to sharing it with you.
Where in the world are you right now?
— I am based in Valencia at the moment. A beautiful Spanish city on the Mediterranean sea.
Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new Return from Delta EP on TAU. Can you talk to us through the release and how it came about?
— Thank you! I'm glad you guys like it. This is the second EP for TAU. I have a close and good relations with Adana Twins. We definitely understand each other on a production level and there is a lot of transparency with them. We are able to freely exchange our thoughts, which I reckon is gold.
I've called this second one 'Return from Delta' because I've composed it just after I got a big Covid, and it was actually the Delta variant. It was not a best time for me though and made this EP was like a way to free myself from it. Each song tells a story reflecting its emotional but also energetic side.
Going back to your formative years, can you explain when and how you fell in love with electronic music? Was there a particular moment when the penny dropped?
— I've always been a big fan and passionate of electronic music. After finishing my audiovisual and communication degree in France, I moved to Valencia where I created my alter ego Darlyn Vlys. I started to buy machines, plugins, to properly handle the samplers and sequencers and my first tracks saw the light back in 2009 and then I decided to send my music to record labels. Shortly after I was signing a debut single on the prestigious German label, Get Physical. It all came quite naturally I reckon.
What music (or artists) have played the biggest role in shaping you as an artist over the years?
— Artists and bands such as The Chemical Brothers, M83, Apparat, Vitalic or even Trentemøller have definitely influenced my career and my music. I think they have and will keep leaving a mark on my music.
How would you describe your current sound, and why have you chosen to pursue this particular brand electronic music over other styles? What is it about the genre that you love so much?
— From the very beginning, my music style has evolved a lot, moving from the deep house until driving to techno. During the last 3 years, my sound has reached the maturity releasing EPs on Correspondant, Roam or TAU.

Actually, I would define my style between rock and indie dance with a touch of synthwave.
Looking forwards, do you have any specific goals or objectives you would like to achieve as an artist?
— My goal this year is to release a series of EPs on vinyl on Polaris. Production and distribution will be handled by Muting the Noise. As an artist, I still have a lot of things to do and places to discover. I just want to have as much fun as I do now.
If you could put on your own show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you have joined you on the lineup?
— I would love to play in the desert at Burning Man one day, friends who has been there, always told me how wonderful the experience is. In this event, I could see artists as Paulor, Damon Jee, Red Axes or Simple Symmetry.
Where can we see you perform over the coming months?
— You can catch me playing next September 24 in Bordeaux alongside Curses and Bonney Spacey for a big open-air party hosted by French South-West promoters called Lascar Capac. I'll be playing right after Curses, who's going to play live.

Later in November I will be in Marseille playing for 'LE Chapiteau'.

Then I'm currently finalizing my tour in India for the end of the year.
Finally, do you have any other projects coming up soon that you'd like to share with us?
— I'm working on an EP with Adana Twins. I'm a huge fan of their music, it's a big challenge and a great experience for me! I can't tell you more.
Thank you and good luck with the release, we wish you all the best!
— Thx guys, it was great talking!
